DigiTech Girls

Year 10
Subject Information

Female students in either Year 9 or 10.

Subject Description

Do you want to change the world? Ever considered designing and building apps, or other products, to improve human and environmental well-being?

Programming (or coding) skills are fundamental to careers of the future. More than this, most careers of the future will expect their workers to have skills in this area, even if they are not employed directly as ‘programmers’. Yet few girls have been choosing programming as a subject. Imagine the products that may never be developed unless girls get in this space! The aim of this course is to introduce girls to this very important skill through a ‘making a difference’ approach. Girls in this space will become the ‘super heroes’ of the future and make a difference.

This course has been aligned to the Tech Girls Movement, a non-profit organisation aimed at changing the world. It recognizes that this industry needs people of all shapes and sizes, from all kinds of different backgrounds, with differing knowledge bases and areas of expertise. Every individual has the opportunity to unleash their creativity to change the world in ways we can only imagine.
The Tech Girls Movement’s goal is to support the development of a more diverse IT workforce, ultimately resulting in better technology for society. So, to all of you girls out there who want to make people’s lives easier through technology, and who want to be part of creating the future of the world, then …

Your challenge, should you accept it...is to join this class and become a DigiTech Girl!
