Stage 1 PE has three focus areas, In Movement, Through Movement & About Movement that are explored through team and individual sports. Students will apply concepts of Biomechanics, skill acquisition, physiological responses and adaptations to physical activity to their practical lessons.
Assessment Type 1:
Improvement Analysis (30%) Students individually analyse their suitability for a chosen sport. They conduct fitness testing and gather evidence of their performance to highlight their most suitable position for the sport. Assessment takes place in the form of a Screen cast. Improvement Analysis (30%) Students collect data and apply Exercise Physiology principles including Energy Systems when playing a particular sport. Assessment is 1000 word maximum.
Assessment Type 2:
Physical Activity Investigation (40%) Students individually or collaboratively collect data from the activities undertaken (for example, manually recording data, using apps, video analysis, and/or self and peer assessment feedback). Students integrate concepts from one or more focus areas to analyse the data and reflect on factors that may hinder or encourage participation in each activity. They investigate Play Practice theory and how it makes physical activity more inclusive. Assessment type is 2000 words or 12 minute multimodal presentation.
