Subject Information

This course is offered as a Stage 1 subject in year 10.
Prerequisites: level 4 or better in Year 9 Humanities or English.

Subject Description

Philosophy will encourage you to think and discuss the ‘big questions of the world’. You will explore philosophical issues including ethics, explore the notion of right from wrong, study theories of knowledge and the nature of existence as well as develop inquiry skills, including reasoning, critical analysis, and problem-solving, and evaluate arguments. You will explore and understand how philosophers have thought about problems which could include environmental issues, medical ethics, women’s issues, and science to name a few.

Folio - Two tasks, of different modes, on Epistemology and Metaphysics.

Issues Analysis – Apply ethical thinking and theories to an Issue of your choice.

Issue Study - Analyse and conclude on your choice of a philosophical topic.
