Humanities is a compulsory full year subject at Year 8.

Subject Description

This course encourages students to broaden their own perspectives and understanding of societies past and present, and equips them to become informed, active, responsible citizens. Students study units in History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship, and Economics and Business. 


  • The study of the Ancient to the Modern World (c.650-1750 AD (CE)).

  • Medieval Europe: changes in Western & Eastern worlds (590 CE to 1500 CE)

  • Japan under the Shoguns: study of Japanese politics & society (c. 794-1867)

  • The Black Death


  • Landforms & landscapes

  • Changing nations:

Civics and Citizenship:

  • Government & Democracy

  • Law & Citizens

  • Citizenship, Diversity & Identity

Economics and Business:

  • The study of how markets operate

  • The rights and responsibilities of consumers and businesses

  • The ways businesses respond to opportunities in the market

  • The influences on the ways people work.
