Media Arts: Film

Subject Information

Students may choose one or two semester courses from the Arts learning area.

Subject Description

Students undertaking Film (Media Arts) will be introduced to practical skills in video production, as well as analysing themes, structures and theories in contemporary short films. This course focuses on experiences within Film, with students will work in small production teams where emphasis is placed on filmmaking process (i.e. ideation, scripting, storyboarding, practising camera shots, etc.), as well as product (i.e. development of visual effects, editing videos for public screening).

Students will be introduced to professional film equipment (GoPro’s) and software (Adobe Premiere Rush) with opportunities to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in their use.

Students will be required to work both collaboratively and independently across a range of assessment tasks. Students with strong time management skills will have an advantage in this course.

Students will have the opportunity to enter their works in the NMHS Shortcuts Film Festival. Examples of students final work can be found on the schools YouTube Channel

Additional Costs

Must purchase an A3 Pocket Display Folder. Students must purchase a 8GB (minimum) SD card for storage of camera-based files. Students will also require a 8GB (minimum) USB for file storage. Course may involve an excursion for photography and filming, which may be at some cost to the students (maximum $15.00).
