Enriching Humanity: Care in a Bag

Subject Information

Girls can study this course at either Year 9, or 10 or BOTH.

Subject Description

This course has a focus on ‘enriching humanity’. Students will identify a charity of
that needs support (e.g. a homeless shelter, bushfire affected animals, children in
need and so on), identify the needs of this group, and then create a ‘Care in a
Bag’ package, filled with products they have designed and made to support the
charity of their choice.


Topics covered:

  • Use of technologies that could potentially be used in the development of products (eg. fibre and food technologies, 3D printing and laser cutting technologies, along with associated software)

  • Social, ethical and sustainability considerations of technology (food and fibre focus)

  • Sustainable food and fibre production

  • Repurposing products


Students use the Design Cycle, a process approaching industry standard, to
design, develop and test their products.
