Music Performance: Solo

Assumed Knowledge

A solid set of skills in playing an Instrument (Voice included).​

Prerequisites

Students must have completed year 11 Music (whole year preferred) and passed Solo Performance with at least a C+. Students must have an Instrumental Music Teacher and must be undertaking regular lessons.

Subject Description

Solo Performance is a 10 Credit subject where students develop their skills in both Performing on their chosen Instrument in front of an audience as well as developing their Responding skills. 


Students develop their Instrumental playing (or singing) skills through regular lessons with an Instrumental teacher where performance skills are developed to a High level, necessary for performing in a Public situation. Several public performances are expected throughout the year, including a performance at Senior Campus Music Night. 


Students are required to undertake regular instrumental or vocal lessons either with a private tutor outside of the school or through one of the tutors available at NMHS.


Free small group lessons offered include: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass; Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone; Trumpet, Trombone; Guitar and Bass Guitar


Private one-to-one lessons ($30-35 per week) include: Guitar, Voice, Classical Piano, Jazz Piano, Drums. Hire instruments are available at the rate of $45 per term.


Co-curricular music at NMHS: 

The Music faculty also offers the following co-curricular ensembles: string and wind orchestra, big band and drum corps. Students studying a co-curricular ensemble will receive a double lesson home study in lieu of after school rehearsals.

Additional Costs

Families may be asked to contribute towards the cost of tickets for a live performances as arranged with the teacher to an approximate total of $20.00.
Participation in the Senior Big Band or Senior Orchestra is levied at the rate of $100 per annum.

Assessment Type 1:

Assessment Type 1: 6-8 minute performance.

Assessment Type 2:

Assessment Type 2: A 6-8 minute performance, plus a discussion.

Assessment Type 3:

Assessment Type 3: A 6-8 minute Performance Portfolio, plus an Evaluation.
