Subject Description

All students who want to enrol in this subject are required to apply via the EAL Co-ordinator or EAL teacher. Students develop and use a variety of skills and strategies to communicate, comprehend language and undertake text analysis and creation. They explore links between structures, features, purpose, audience and context and are provided with opportunities to broaden their understanding and develop skills for research and academic study.

Students study a variety of oral, multimodal texts, literary and informational texts in order to understand specific structures of text types and the language features that accompany each one.

Assessment Type 1:

Academic Literary Study: Investigation of a question/topic. Findings presented in a written report (1500 words) and oral (10 minutes)​.

Assessment Type 2:

Responding to Texts: Four responses: one oral, two written and free response (3000 words in total or equivalent - 6 minute oral)​.

Assessment Type 3:

External Assessment: 2.5 hour External Examination – Section 1: Comprehending Multimodal Texts Section 2: Written Paper​.
